Pendle Hill

It was bright and Sunny when I set out this morning for Pendle Hill just a mile to the west of Clitheroe and within a stone’s throw of where I live, a place I usually fly my paraglider and let it do most of the work but today I was going to have to do all the work my self. With a summit of 557 meters above sea level it dominates the surrounding area of the beautiful Trough of Bowland Ther e a re a couple of options for walking the hill however I chose the steep climb and some wonderful undulating countryside as you get nearer to the summit. You can make a good circular walk upto the top down the other side and back up again which takes about 3 hours covering 7 miles and total climb of 1500 ft so it is a natural choice for my training climbs. Today although it was sunny the hill itself was very wet and boggy underfoot but that didn’t curb my enthusiasm as I set of at what I thought was a brisk pace. I quickly started the steep climb at the start of the hill and although I was huffing and puffing like a character from Thomas the Tank Engine I was feeling proud at how well I was managing the hill when I became aware of someone behind me and to my dismay some crazy lady came running past me making it look so effortless…. Oh well back to the gym tomorrow to double the efforts on the stepping and rowing machines
